WFWP Nigeria Children's Day Celebration

The theme of the celebration was "Let us Become Children of God who Honor our Fathers and Mothers and Live in Peace as Brothers and Sisters"18 teachers joined the children in the celebration which featured three lessons covering the theme, reading of texts from holy books, singing songs, questions and answers session as well as the children's day pledge recitation and children's dance party. The first lesson was "Let us Become Children of God", which emphasized the need for all participants to understand that they were born to be sons and daughters of God and therefore members of One Family under God. The second lesson focused on "Honoring our Fathers and Mothers" while the third lesson was on "Living in Peace as Brothers and Sisters".

The young children were very happy with the inspiration from the lessons and also liked the idea of having a large classroom of 360 learners with 18 teachers learning the same lessons together. The event also featured the recitation of a children's day pledge by all participants:"We pledge to become children (sons and daughters) of God, who Honor our Fathers and Mothers and strive to Live in Peace on earth as brothers and sisters. So, help us God. Amen/Aju".With support from the WFWP Nigeria and the family of Edward and Patricia Hartley, all the participants received exercise books and pens with light refreshments as a children's day gift. Speaking at the closing session, some of the children and teachers called for a regular gathering for reading and learning (HDH) for the 360 children as an experimental group with the hope that the idea can be replicated in many communities on a weekly or monthly basis. They also called for support in payment of about $4 per year per child school fees for children from poor families to remain in school.

With special gratitude to WFWP and other supporters, the children and teachers are looking forward to hosting the monthly Children's Assembly for Reading and Learning about God, Humankind, and the Environment.
