WFWP Burkina Faso:“Environmental Awareness Program

By: Aimee Kabore

As part of our project "Environmental Awareness: Call to Action," the Women’s Federation for World Peace Burkina Faso Chapter organized a cleaning activity on Saturday, July 27th, at the Urban Medical Center of Gounghin in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Prior to the event, we visited the medical center to discuss our project and obtain approval from the center's management. After receiving their agreement, we scheduled the activity for Saturday, July 27th.
On the day of the event, we, along with some youth members from IAYSP, gathered at the medical center at 8:30 a.m. Dr. Abdallah Ouedraogo, one of the hospital's managers, welcomed us and guided us to the areas that needed cleaning. We took photos with him before beginning our work. At 9:00 a.m., everyone equipped themselves with cleaning tools, and we commenced cleaning, weeding, sweeping, and collecting garbage, which we then disposed of in the designated dump.
The highlight of the activity was the assistance we received from a few of the center's employees, who joined us in our efforts. The hospital manager was deeply moved to see our organization, including both mothers and youth, contributing to the upkeep of the hospital grounds.
This cleaning initiative was our way of raising environmental awareness and contributing to a cleaner environment to help reduce the mosquito population and prevent diseases like malaria.
We had 20 participants in total, and the activity ran from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
