Funville 2.0 – Design with Kids Project

WFWP-South Africa has an ongoing partnership with Lego Foundation. Through their grant distributor (ChangeX), WFWP South Africa received a $1,056 grant to introduce the concept of designing with child at eMisebeni Primary School. The purpose of the project is to design play space for children with children to ensure that it serve their needs. This is also an opportunity to introduce design thinking as a way of solving problems at an early age. The first phase of the project was implemented in April 2024. We then got an additional $1,056 in 2nd half of 2024 to expand the play area using the same concept. This was implemented in November 2024. This report covers the 2nd phase of the project.
We ran a Design with Kids workshop for the learners to create a second prototype of the play area, bought material need for the additional play units, secured the assistant of a professional installer and handed over the project to the school and parent body during the School End of the Year event. WFWP SA was invited to this event, and we were formally introduced to the community of parents as a partner to eMisebeni Primary School Management. The impact of our work was shared with the community of parents who were present.
